In a large bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Make a well in the center of the mixture and pour in the buttermilk. Mix together to form a soft dough.
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead lightly for a few minutes. Form the dough into a round loaf and place it on the prepared baking sheet.
Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the loaf comes out clean.
Let the bread cool for at least 10 minutes before serving.
