Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup cold butter, cut into small cubes
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Grease a large baking sheet.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Make a well in the center of the mixture and pour in the buttermilk. Mix together to form a soft dough.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead lightly for a few minutes. Form the dough into a round loaf and place it on the prepared baking sheet.
  5. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the loaf comes out clean.
  6. Let the bread cool for at least 10 minutes before serving.
