Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups applesauce

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease an 8x8 inch baking dish.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until smooth. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla. Gradually stir the dry ingredients into the creamed mixture. Finally, stir in the applesauce.
  4. Spread the batter into the prepared baking dish.
  5. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes in the preheated oven, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the bars comes out clean.
  6. Allow bars to cool before slicing into bars.
