Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup toasted hazelnuts, finely chopped

Directions

  1. In a medium size saucepan, combine the milk, cream, sugar and cornstarch. Stir to combine.
  2. Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture is thickened and bubbly. Remove from heat.
  3. Stir in the vanilla extract and chopped hazelnuts.
  4. Pour the mixture into a shallow dish and cover with plastic wrap. Place in the refrigerator to cool completely.
  5. Freeze the mixture in an ice cream maker according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  6. Serve the gelato immediately or store in an airtight container in the freezer.
