Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.
In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla. Combine the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda and salt; stir into the batter just until blended. Spread the batter into the prepared pan.
Bake for 25 to 30 minutes in the preheated oven, until the top is set. Let cool in the pan before cutting into squares.
To make the hamentashen, roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/8 inch thickness. Cut out 3-inch rounds with a cookie cutter. Place 1 teaspoon of chocolate chips in the center of each round. Fold the sides up to form a triangle, pinching the corners to seal.
Bake for 15 to 20 minutes in the preheated oven, or until the edges are golden brown.
