Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup light brown sugar
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 1 large egg
- Granulated sugar, for decorating
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add the molasses and egg, and mix until combined.
- Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until combined. The dough will be thick and slightly sticky.
- Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface until it is about 1/4-inch thick. Use a gingerbread boy cookie cutter to cut out the shapes and place on the prepared baking sheets.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden brown. Let cool completely before decorating.
- To decorate, sprinkle the cookies with granulated sugar. Enjoy!
