Ingredients
- 2 large egg whites
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for vanilla tuiles)
- 2 tablespoons cocoa powder (for chocolate tuiles)
Directions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk the egg whites until frothy.
- Gradually add the sugar and continue whisking until the mixture becomes thick and glossy.
- Sift the flour into the egg white mixture and gently fold it in using a spatula.
- Pour in the melted butter and vanilla extract (for vanilla tuiles) or cocoa powder (for chocolate tuiles). Mix well until fully incorporated.
- Spoon small amounts of the batter onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving enough space in between for spreading.
- Using the back of a spoon, spread the batter into thin and even rounds or create decorative shapes by spreading the batter with a piping bag.
- Bake for 5-7 minutes or until the edges of the tuiles turn golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and quickly lift the tuiles off the baking sheet using a thin spatula or knife.
- Place the tuiles over a rolling pin or a narrow bottle to create a curved shape. Leave them to cool and harden.
- Repeat the process with the remaining batter.
- Once completely cooled, store the tuiles in an airtight container to maintain their crispness.
