Ingredients

  • 3 large sweet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 2 cups grated Gruyere cheese
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the heavy cream, minced garlic, thyme, salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Stir well to combine.
  3. Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with melted butter.
  4. Arrange a layer of sliced sweet potatoes in the bottom of the baking dish, slightly overlapping each slice.
  5. Sprinkle a layer of grated Gruyere cheese over the sweet potatoes.
  6. Pour a portion of the cream mixture over the cheese and sweet potatoes, making sure to evenly distribute the liquid.
  7. Repeat the layers of sweet potatoes, cheese, and cream until all ingredients are used, finishing with a layer of cheese on top.
  8. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes.
