Ingredients

  • 1 pound spaghetti
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 can (14 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the spaghetti according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and minced garlic and sauté until the onion is translucent and the garlic is fragrant.
  4. Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it up into small pieces with a spatula.
  5. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper. Simmer the sauce for 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  6. In a large baking dish, layer half of the cooked spaghetti, followed by half of the meat sauce. Sprinkle half of the mozzarella cheese and Parmesan cheese over the sauce. Repeat the layers with the remaining spaghetti, meat sauce, and cheeses.
  7. Cover the baking dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  8. Garnish the casserole with chopped fresh parsley before serving. Enjoy!
