Learn how to make a mouthwatering Japanese shrimp fried rice infused with umami flavors and served with a creamy yum yum sauce. This dish is perfect for a quick and satisfying weeknight meal or for a gathering with friends and family.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 3 cups cooked white rice, chilled
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup frozen mixed vegetables, thawed
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup diced onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add shrimp and cook until pink, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove shrimp from skillet and set aside.
  2. In the same skillet, add diced onion and garlic. Cook until fragrant, about 2 minutes.
  3. Push onion and garlic to one side of the skillet and pour beaten eggs into the empty space. Scramble the eggs until cooked through, then mix with onion and garlic.
  4. Add chilled rice, thawed mixed vegetables, soy sauce, and sesame oil to the skillet. Stir well to combine all ingredients.
  5. Cook the fried rice for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until heated through. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Add cooked shrimp back to the skillet and stir to incorporate with the fried rice mixture. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  7. Serve the Japanese shrimp fried rice hot with a drizzle of yum yum sauce on top.
