Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 8 slices rye bread
  • 8 slices Swiss cheese
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter, softened

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, chopped onion, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  2. Divide the beef mixture into 4 equal portions. Shape each portion into a patty that is slightly larger than the bread slices to allow for shrinkage during cooking.
  3. Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Place the patties in the skillet and cook for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until they are cooked to your desired level of doneness. Remove from heat and set aside.
  4. Spread butter on one side of each slice of rye bread. Place 4 slices, buttered side down, on a clean surface or cutting board.
  5. Top each slice with a slice of Swiss cheese, followed by a cooked beef patty. Add another slice of Swiss cheese on top of each patty. Finally, place the remaining slices of bread on top, making sure the buttered side is facing up.
  6. Preheat a separate skillet or griddle over medium heat. Carefully transfer the assembled sandwiches to the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes per side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
  7. Remove from heat and let the sandwiches rest for a couple of minutes. Slice each sandwich diagonally and serve warm.
  8. Enjoy your delicious Grilled Cheese Patty Melts!
