Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup cold water
- 1 cup mixed fresh berries (such as strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 egg, beaten
Directions
- In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Gradually add cold water and mix until the dough comes together. Shape the dough into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap, and chill for 30 minutes.
- In a medium saucepan, combine mixed berries, lemon juice, sugar, and cornstarch. Cook over medium heat until the mixture thickens. Remove from heat and let it cool.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface to 1/4 inch thickness. Using a heart-shaped cookie cutter, cut out pairs of hearts.
- Place half of the hearts onto the prepared baking sheet. Spoon a small amount of the fruit filling onto each heart, leaving a border around the edge.
