Ingredients

  • 1 whole chicken
  • 1 can of beer
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley

Directions

  1. Preheat your grill to medium heat.
  2. In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, paprika, chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, cayenne pepper, dried thyme, dried rosemary, dried oregano, and dried parsley.
  3. Remove the giblets from the chicken and pat it dry with paper towels.
  4. Rub the spice mixture all over the chicken, making sure to get it on the outside, inside the cavity, and under the skin.
  5. Open the can of beer and take a few sips to make some room in the can.
  6. Place the beer can on a flat surface and lower the chicken onto the can, making sure the can is inserted into the cavity.
  7. Carefully transfer the beer can and chicken onto the grill, positioning the chicken so it stands upright with the can supporting it.
  8. Close the grill and cook the chicken for about 1 hour, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) when measured with a meat thermometer.
  9. Remove the chicken from the grill and let it rest for 10 minutes before carefully removing the beer can.
  10. Carve the chicken and serve it hot with your favorite BBQ sauce.
