Ingredients
- 1 whole chicken
- 1 can of beer
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 tablespoons paprika
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 1 tablespoon dried oregano
- 1 tablespoon dried thyme
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1 tablespoon black pepper
Directions
- Preheat your grill to medium heat.
- In a small bowl, mix together the paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, thyme, salt, and black pepper.
- Remove the neck and giblets from the chicken and rinse it thoroughly inside and out. Pat the chicken dry with paper towels.
- Rub the olive oil all over the chicken, then sprinkle the spice mixture evenly over the chicken, pressing it into the skin.
- Open the beer can and take a few sips to create some room in the can. Place the beer can on a stable surface, then carefully lower the chicken cavity onto the can, so it stands upright. The beer can should act as a stand to hold the chicken up.
- Carefully transfer the chicken and beer can to the preheated grill and place it over indirect heat. Close the grill lid and cook for about 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the internal temperature of the chicken reaches 165°F (74°C).
- Once the chicken is cooked, carefully remove it from the grill, using oven mitts or tongs. Let it rest for 10 minutes before removing the beer can.
- Carve the chicken and serve with your favorite side dishes.
