Chicken Romano is a classic Italian-American dish that features breaded chicken cutlets topped with a creamy Romano cheese sauce. This recipe is easy to make and packed with flavor. The chicken is breaded with a mixture of breadcrumbs, Romano cheese, and Italian spices, then pan-fried to crispy perfection. The sauce is made with Romano cheese, cream, butter, and garlic for a rich and indulgent topping. Serve this Chicken Romano with pasta or a side of vegetables for a satisfying and delicious meal.

Ingredients

  • 4 chicken breasts
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 cup grated Romano cheese
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup heavy cream

Directions

  1. In a shallow dish, combine the breadcrumbs, Romano cheese, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper.
  2. Place the beaten eggs in another shallow dish, and the flour in a third shallow dish.
  3. Dredge each chicken breast in the flour, dip into the beaten eggs, and then coat with the breadcrumb mixture, pressing lightly to adhere.
  4. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the breaded chicken breasts and cook for 4-5 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  5. In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes, or until fragrant.
  6. Pour in the heavy cream and bring to a simmer. Let the sauce cook for 2-3 minutes, or until slightly thickened.
  7. Stir in the remaining Romano cheese until melted and smooth.
  8. Return the cooked chicken breasts to the skillet, spooning the sauce over the top.
  9. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, or until the chicken is heated through and the sauce is bubbly.
  10. Serve the Chicken Romano hot with pasta or a side of vegetables.
  11. Enjoy!
