1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips for frosting
1/2 cup heavy cream
2 tablespoons butter
1/2 teaspoon salt
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
In a large bowl, mix together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. In a separate bowl, mix together the sour cream, melted butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla.
Mix the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring just until combined. Mix in 1/2 cup of chocolate chips. Pour into the prepared pans.
Bake for 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
To make the frosting, melt 1 1/2 cups of semi-sweet chocolate chips, heavy cream, butter, and salt in a double boiler over medium heat, stirring constantly.
Spread the frosting between the layers and over the top and sides of the cake.
