Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 medium onion, finely diced
- 1 pound ground beef
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Directions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the cold cubed butter and use your fingertips to rub it into the flour until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
- Gradually add the water and mix until a dough forms. Knead the dough lightly on a floured surface until it becomes smooth. Wrap it in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- Meanwhile, heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook until it becomes translucent and soft.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until fully browned. Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, dried thyme, salt, and pepper. Remove from heat and let the mixture cool.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the chilled dough to a thickness of approximately 1/8 inch. Cut out circles of about 6 inches in diameter.
- Place a spoonful of the cooled beef mixture onto one half of each dough circle. Fold the other half over the filling to form a half-moon shape. Press the edges together to seal, and then crimp the edges with a fork.
- Transfer the bridies to the prepared baking tray. Brush the tops with beaten egg wash.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the bridies are golden brown and crisp.
- Remove from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy these delectable Forfar Bridies!
