This classic meatball sandwich recipe is a crowd-pleaser that will satisfy any appetite. Tender homemade meatballs are nestled in a soft hero roll, smothered in marinara sauce, and topped with melted mozzarella cheese. The result is a mouthwatering sandwich that is perfect for lunch or dinner. Serve with a side of fries or a green salad for a complete meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 1/4 cup minced onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 hero rolls
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, mix together ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, parsley, onion, garlic, egg, salt, and black pepper until well combined.
  2. Shape the mixture into meatballs, approximately 1 inch in diameter.
  3. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the meatballs. Cook for about 10-15 minutes, turning occasionally, until they are browned on all sides and cooked through.
  4. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Split the hero rolls, but do not cut all the way through. Place them on a baking sheet.
  6. Spoon marinara sauce over the bottom half of each roll. Place the meatballs on top of the sauce and sprinkle with mozzarella cheese.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for about 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  8. Remove from the oven and top each sandwich with the remaining half of the hero roll. Serve hot.
