It's the perfect dessert for any occasion and will surely impress your family and friends. With a prep time of just 20 minutes and a total baking time of 50 minutes, you'll have a homemade apple pie ready to serve in no time.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
  • 1/4 cup cold water
  • 6-7 large apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 egg, beaten

Directions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and diced butter. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  2. Gradually add the cold water to the flour mixture, a tablespoon at a time, mixing with a fork until the dough comes together.
  3. Divide the dough into two equal portions and shape each portion into a flat disk. Wrap both disks in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  4. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  5. In a separate bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, cornstarch, and lemon juice. Toss until the apples are evenly coated.
  6. Roll out one of the chilled dough disks on a floured surface to fit a 9-inch pie dish. Carefully transfer the rolled-out dough to the pie dish, gently pressing it to line the bottom and sides of the dish.
  7. Pour the apple filling into the pie crust, spreading it out evenly.
  8. Roll out the second chilled dough disk and carefully place it on top of the apple filling. Press the edges of the top and bottom crusts together to seal.
  9. Trim any excess dough, leaving a 1-inch overhang. Fold the overhang under the bottom crust and crimp the edges to create a decorative border.
  10. Using a sharp knife, make a few slits on the top crust to allow steam to escape during baking.
  11. Brush the top crust with the beaten egg, then place the pie on a baking sheet to catch any drips.
  12. Bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 375°F (190°C) and continue baking for another 40-45 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the apple filling is bubbling.
  13. Remove the pie from the oven and allow it to cool on a wire rack for at least 2 hours before serving. This will allow the filling to set.
  14. Serve the apple pie warm or at room temperature, and enjoy!
