Ingredients
- 1 9-inch deep dish pie crust
- 4 cups fresh or frozen pitted cherries
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 3 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon butter (optional)
- 1 egg white (optional)
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar (optional)
Directions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, combine cherries, 1/2 cup sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon and salt; mix well.
- Pour mixture into pie crust and dot with butter, if desired.
- Cover with top crust; seal and flute edges. Cut several slits in top crust to allow steam to escape.
- Beat egg white until foamy; brush over crust. Sprinkle with 1 tablespoon sugar.
- Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 40 to 50 minutes or until crust is golden brown and filling is bubbly.
- Cool on wire rack before serving.
