Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1/4 cup warm milk
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for coating

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
  2. Add the warm water, melted butter, eggs, and warm milk. Stir until everything is combined and a soft dough forms.
  3. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5 minutes.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover with a damp cloth. Let the dough rise in a warm place for 30 minutes.
  5. Once the dough has doubled in size, turn it out onto a lightly floured surface and roll to a 1/4-inch thickness.
  6. Cut out circles using a biscuit cutter or a drinking glass and place the circles on a greased baking sheet.
  7. Cover the doughnuts with a damp cloth and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  8. Heat the vegetable oil in a deep-fryer or large pot to 350 degrees F.
  9. Fry the doughnuts in batches until they are golden brown, about 3 minutes per side.
  10. Remove the doughnuts from the oil and let them drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
  11. Sprinkle the doughnuts with powdered sugar and serve warm.
