Ingredients

  • 3 cups apples, peeled, cored and diced
  • 2 cups pears, peeled, cored and diced
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup apple cider

Directions

  1. In a large saucepan, combine the apples, pears, sugars, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, allspice, and salt.
  2. Stir to combine and cook over medium heat for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Add the apple cider and cook for an additional 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples and pears are very soft and the mixture is thick.
  5. Remove the mixture from the heat and let cool to room temperature.
  6. Transfer to a food processor and process until smooth.
  7. Transfer to a clean glass jar and store in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
