2 pounds of apples (about 4-5 medium-sized apples)
1/2 cup of water
1/2 cup of apple cider vinegar
2 cups of white or light brown sugar
1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon of ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon of ground allspice
Directions
In a large pot, combine the apples, water and vinegar. Cook over medium heat for 20 minutes, or until the apples are soft.
Remove the pot from the heat and allow the mixture to cool for 10 minutes. Once cool, mash the apples with a potato masher or blend with an immersion blender until smooth.
Return the pot to the heat and add the sugar, cinnamon, cloves and allspice. Cook over medium heat for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Reduce the heat to low and simmer, stirring often, for 1 1/2 hours, or until the mixture is thick and dark brown in color.
Remove the pot from the heat and allow the apple butter to cool completely. Pour into jars or other containers and store in the fridge for up to two weeks.
