Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour two 8 inch round cake pans.
In a small bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt; set aside.
In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the almond extract. Beat in the flour mixture alternately with the milk; stir until just blended.
Spread the batter evenly between the two prepared pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
Allow to cool in the pans for at least 10 minutes before turning out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
Frost the cooled cake with almond buttercream frosting.
