With just a little bit of heat from the poblano peppers, this salsa is great for those who prefer a milder spice level. Try making this smooth poblano salsa for your next gathering or as a tasty accompaniment to your meals.

Ingredients

  • 3 poblano peppers
  • 2 tomatoes
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro leaves
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cumin

Directions

  1. Preheat the broiler in your oven.
  2. Place the poblano peppers on a baking sheet and broil them for about 5 minutes, or until the skin is charred and blistered.
  3. Remove the peppers from the oven and immediately transfer them to a ziplock bag. Seal the bag and let the peppers steam for about 10 minutes. This will make it easier to peel off the skin.
  4. After 10 minutes, take the peppers out of the bag and carefully peel off the charred skin. Remove the stems and seeds as well.
  5. In a blender or food processor, combine the roasted poblanos, tomatoes, chopped onion, garlic, cilantro leaves, lime juice, salt, black pepper, and cumin. Blend until smooth and well combined.
  6. Taste the salsa and adjust the seasoning if needed. You can add more salt, pepper, or lime juice according to your taste preference.
  7. Transfer the salsa to a bowl and let it chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving. This will allow the flavors to meld together and enhance the taste.
  8. Serve the smooth poblano salsa with tortilla chips, as a topping for tacos, or as a sauce for your favorite Mexican dishes. Enjoy!
