Quick Sausage and Bell Pepper Calzones

Ingredients

  • 1/2 pound Italian sausage
  • 3 bell peppers, sliced into strips
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 package (15 ounces) refrigerated pie crusts
  • 1 egg, beaten

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until it is browned and cooked through. Add the bell peppers and cook until just tender.
  3. Stir in the mozzarella, Parmesan, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper and mix until the cheeses are melted.
  4. On a lightly floured surface, roll out one sheet of pie crust. Cut into 4 equal-sized circles.
  5. Divide the sausage and pepper mixture among the circles of dough, placing it in the center of each circle.
  6. Brush the edges of the dough circles with the beaten egg.
  7. Fold the dough circles in half and press the edges together to seal.
  8. Place the calzones on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  9. Brush the tops of the calzones with the beaten egg.
  10. Bake for 15 minutes or until the calzones are golden brown.
  11. Let cool for 5 minutes before serving.
