Ingredients
1½ cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
¼ teaspoon baking soda
¼ teaspoon salt
⅓ cup butter, softened
½ cup sugar
2 eggs
2 tablespoons orange juice
1 teaspoon orange zest
½ cup chopped dates
½ cup chopped walnuts
Directions
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8-inch (20 cm) round cake pan.
In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time.
Add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture alternately with the orange juice and zest.
Stir in the dates and walnuts.
Pour the batter into the greased and floured cake pan. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes before turning out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
