Ingredients
2 cups steamed white rice
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon rice vinegar (optional)
Optional savory filling (e.g. umeboshi, tuna mayo, salmon, etc.)
Directions
Mix the steamed white rice and salt together in a medium bowl.
If desired, add the rice vinegar and mix together until combined.
Divide the mixture into four equal portions.
Take one portion and shape it into a triangle or round ball in the palm of your hand.
If using a filling, place 1 to 2 teaspoons of the filling into the center of the ball.
Fold the sides of the rice ball around the filling to completely cover it.
Gently press the ball together to form a triangular or round shape.
Repeat steps 4 to 7 with the remaining portions of the rice.
Enjoy the onigiri at room temperature or serve chilled.
