Ingredients
- 3 pounds beef brisket
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes
- 1/2 cup tomato sauce
- 1/2 cup red wine
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
Directions
- Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C).
- Heat olive oil in a large oven-safe skillet over medium heat. Place brisket in the skillet and cook until browned, about 5 minutes per side.
- Remove brisket from the skillet and set aside. Add onion and garlic to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, red wine, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, oregano, salt, and pepper. Return brisket to the skillet and spoon the sauce over it.
- Cover the skillet with a lid or foil and bake in the preheated oven for 3 hours.
- Remove the lid and bake for an additional 20 minutes. Slice brisket and serve with the sauce.
