Ingredients

  • 3 pounds beef brisket
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup red wine
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C).
  2. Heat olive oil in a large oven-safe skillet over medium heat. Place brisket in the skillet and cook until browned, about 5 minutes per side.
  3. Remove brisket from the skillet and set aside. Add onion and garlic to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, red wine, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, oregano, salt, and pepper. Return brisket to the skillet and spoon the sauce over it.
  5. Cover the skillet with a lid or foil and bake in the preheated oven for 3 hours.
  6. Remove the lid and bake for an additional 20 minutes. Slice brisket and serve with the sauce.
