Walnut-Poteca is a delightful sweet treat made with a combination of walnuts and honey, packed with flavor and crunch. This traditional recipe is perfect for holiday gatherings or as a special dessert for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups walnuts, chopped
  • 1 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Phyllo dough sheets
  • 1/2 cup melted butter

Directions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine honey, sugar, water, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and pinch of salt. Cook over medium heat until sugar is dissolved
  2. Remove from heat and stir in chopped walnuts. Let cool slightly
  3. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish and layer phyllo dough sheets, brushing each sheet with melted butter
  4. Spread the walnut mixture evenly over the phyllo dough layers
  5. Continue layering phyllo dough sheets on top of the walnut mixture, brushing each sheet with melted butter
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy
  7. Remove from oven and let cool before cutting into squares or triangles to serve
