Ingredients

  • 6 cups cubed bread (such as French or brioche)
  • 2 cups mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries)
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup water

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish.
  2. Place the bread cubes in the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle the mixed berries evenly over the bread cubes.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  4. Pour the custard mixture evenly over the bread cubes and berries in the baking dish. Press down gently to ensure all bread cubes are coated in the custard.
  5. Let the bread pudding sit for about 10 minutes so that the bread absorbs some of the custard mixture.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the bread pudding is set and golden brown on top.
  7. While the bread pudding is baking, prepare the brown sugar sauce. In a saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat.
  8. Add the brown sugar, cornstarch, and water to the melted butter. Stir continuously until the mixture thickens into a smooth sauce.
  9. Remove the brown sugar sauce from heat and stir in the heavy cream. Set aside.
  10. Once the bread pudding is done baking, remove it from the oven and let it cool slightly.
  11. Serve warm slices of the berry bread pudding drizzled generously with the homemade brown sugar sauce.
  12. Enjoy this delightful dessert!
