This beef Florentine recipe is a flavorful and satisfying dish that combines tender beef, spinach, and a rich tomato sauce. It is a classic Italian-American dish that is perfect for a hearty dinner. The tender beef is simmered in a tomato sauce infused with garlic, onions, and Italian herbs, then combined with sautéed spinach. Serve it over a bed of pasta for a complete meal the whole family will love.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds beef sirloin, sliced into 1-inch thick steaks
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 can (14 ounces) diced tomatoes
  • 1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 cups fresh spinach leaves
  • Cooked pasta, for serving

Directions

  1. Season the beef steaks with salt and pepper on both sides.
  2. Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat.
  3. Add the beef steaks and sear them for 2-3 minutes on each side until browned. Remove the steaks from the skillet and set them aside.
  4. In the same skillet, heat the remaining tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and diced onion, and sauté for 2-3 minutes until softened.
  5. Add the diced tomatoes, tomato paste, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and pepper to the skillet. Stir well to combine.
  6. Return the beef steaks to the skillet and nestle them into the tomato sauce mixture.
  7. Cover the skillet with a lid and reduce the heat to low. Let the beef simmer in the sauce for 20-25 minutes until cooked to your desired level of doneness.
  8. Meanwhile, heat a separate skillet over medium heat and add the spinach leaves. Sauté the spinach for 2-3 minutes until wilted.
  9. To serve, place a bed of cooked pasta on each plate. Top with a portion of the beef steaks and spoon some of the tomato sauce over the steak. Add a side of sautéed spinach. Enjoy!
