Ingredients
- 3 pounds pork shoulder
- 1 onion, diced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup barbecue sauce
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 3 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon mustard
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 8 hamburger buns
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 325°F (160°C).
- Season the pork shoulder with salt, pepper, and smoked paprika.
- In a large Dutch oven or oven-safe pot, heat some oil over medium-high heat.
- Brown the pork shoulder on all sides until nicely seared. Remove from the pot and set aside.
- In the same pot, add the diced onion and minced garlic. Cook until softened and fragrant.
- Add the barbecue sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, salt, and pepper to the pot. Stir well to combine.
- Return the pork shoulder to the pot, ensuring it is covered with the sauce.
- Cover the pot with a lid and transfer it to the preheated oven. Cook for 3-4 hours, or until the pork is tender and easily pulls apart with a fork.
- Once the pork is cooked, remove it from the pot and shred it using two forks. Set aside.
- Place the pot with the sauce on the stovetop over medium heat. Simmer the sauce until it thickens and reduces slightly.
- Return the shredded pork to the pot with the sauce and stir well to coat the meat.
- Toast the hamburger buns until lightly golden.
- Spoon the BBQ pork onto the bottom half of each bun, and top with the other half.
- Serve the BBQ Pork Sandwiches hot, with extra barbecue sauce on the side.
