Ingredients
- 2 cups dried chickpeas, soaked overnight
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1-inch ginger, grated
- 2 green chilies, slit
- 2 teaspoons ground coriander
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 2 tomatoes, pureed
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup water
- Fresh cilantro, chopped for garnish
Directions
- Rinse the soaked chickpeas and set aside.
- Select the 'Saute' function on the Instant Pot and heat oil.
- Add cumin seeds and allow them to sizzle.
- Add chopped onions, minced garlic, grated ginger, and slit green chilies. Saute until onions turn golden brown.
- Add ground coriander, ground cumin, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and garam masala. Saute for a minute to roast the spices.
- Add the pureed tomatoes, tomato paste, and salt. Mix well.
- Add the soaked chickpeas and water. Stir to combine everything.
- Close the Instant Pot lid and set the valve to 'Sealing' position.
- Select the 'Pressure Cook' function and set the timer for 30 minutes on high pressure.
- Once the cooking time is complete, allow the pressure to release naturally for 10 minutes, then carefully quick release the remaining pressure.
- Open the Instant Pot lid and give the chana masala a good stir.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
