Ingredients

  • 12-15 sheets of rice paper
  • 2 tablespoons tamari or soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon liquid smoke
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Cooking spray or oil for brushing

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together tamari or soy sauce, maple syrup, liquid smoke, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and salt.
  3. Cut the rice paper sheets into 1-inch wide strips.
  4. One at a time, dip the rice paper strips into a bowl of warm water for a few seconds until they become pliable.
  5. Place the dipped rice paper strip on a cutting board or clean surface.
  6. Using a pastry brush or your fingers, lightly brush both sides of the rice paper strip with the tamari mixture.
  7. Continue to layer the rice paper strips on top of each other until all the strips are used.
  8. Using a sharp knife, cut the layered rice paper into bacon-sized strips.
  9. Place the rice paper bacon strips on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  10. Lightly spray or brush the strips with cooking oil to help them crisp up in the oven.
  11. Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes or until the bacon strips turn crispy and golden brown.
