Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter

Directions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cocoa powder, chopped nuts, and sugar.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg, buttermilk, and melted butter until combined.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
  4. Heat a griddle or large skillet over medium-high heat and grease with butter or cooking spray.
  5. Drop the batter onto the griddle in 1/4 cup portions. Cook until the edges start to dry and the top of the pancakes begin to bubble, about 2 minutes.
  6. Flip the pancakes and cook for an additional 2 minutes or until cooked through.
  7. Serve with butter, syrup, and extra chopped nuts, if desired.
