Ingredients

  • 4 bratwurst sausages
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon curry powder
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon chili flakes (optional, for heat)
  • 1 cup tomato ketchup
  • 1 cup beef or vegetable broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Crusty bread or fries, for serving

Directions

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until softened.
  2. Add the curry powder, paprika, and chili flakes (if using) to the skillet. Stir well to coat the onions and garlic.
  3. Push the onion mixture to one side of the skillet and add the bratwurst sausages. Cook for about 5 minutes, turning occasionally, until browned on all sides.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix together the tomato ketchup, beef or vegetable broth, Worcestershire sauce, and apple cider vinegar.
  5. Pour the sauce mixture over the sausages in the skillet. Stir everything together and bring to a simmer.
  6. Reduce the heat to low, cover the skillet, and let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes, or until the sausages are fully cooked and the flavors have melded together.
  7. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  8. Serve the currywurst hot, with crusty bread or fries on the side. You can also sprinkle some extra curry powder on top for added flavor.
  9. Enjoy the authentic taste of German street food in the comfort of your own home!
