Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb ground pork
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped bamboo shoots
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped water chestnuts
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped shiitake mushrooms
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground white pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon Chinese five spice powder
  • 1 package store-bought steamed bun wrappers
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground pork, bamboo shoots, water chestnuts, shiitake mushrooms, oyster sauce, sesame oil, sugar, white pepper, garlic powder, ginger, and Chinese five spice powder.
  2. Mix until everything is fully incorporated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 20 minutes.
  3. Remove the wrapper package from the refrigerator and let sit at room temperature for 10 minutes.
  4. To form the buns, spread 1 tablespoon of filling in the center of each wrapper.
  5. Fold the wrapper in half and pinch the sides together to seal the bun.
  6. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  7. Add the buns to the skillet and cook until golden brown, about 2 minutes per side.
  8. Serve immediately.
