Ingredients
- 1 cup yellow cornmeal
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 egg
- 1 cup milk
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 8 hot dogs
- 8 wooden skewers
- Oil, for frying
Directions
- In a large bowl, whisk together the cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, beat the egg. Add the milk and vegetable oil, and mix well.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
- Preheat the oil in a deep fryer or a large pot to 375°F (190°C).
- Pat the hot dogs dry with a paper towel.
- Insert a wooden skewer into each hot dog, leaving about 2 inches of the skewer exposed for holding.
- Dip each hot dog into the cornbread batter, coating it evenly. Allow any excess batter to drip off.
- Carefully place the battered hot dogs into the hot oil, a few at a time. Fry until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per corn dog.
- Remove the corn dogs from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
