Enjoy these delicious homemade apple tartlets that are perfect for any occasion. Made with fresh apples, a buttery crust, and a sweet cinnamon filling, these tartlets are guaranteed to be a hit. Serve them warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a truly indulgent dessert.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/4 cup cold water
  • 4-5 medium-sized apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar, for sprinkling

Directions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
  2. Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Slowly add the cold water to the mixture, stirring until a dough forms. If needed, add more water, a tablespoon at a time.
  4. Divide the dough into two equal portions and shape them into disks. Wrap each disk in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  5. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  6. In a separate mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Toss until the apples are evenly coated.
  7. Remove one dough disk from the refrigerator and roll it out on a lightly floured surface to a thickness of about 1/8 inch.
  8. Using a round cookie cutter or a glass, cut out circles from the rolled-out dough. Place each circle into a greased muffin tin, gently pressing the dough against the sides and bottom.
  9. Fill each tartlet with a spoonful of the apple filling, ensuring it doesn't overflow.
  10. Remove the second dough disk from the refrigerator and repeat the rolling and cutting process.
  11. Cut decorative shapes or lattice strips with the remaining dough and place them on top of each tartlet.
  12. Brush the tops of the tartlets with melted butter and sprinkle with granulated sugar.
  13. Bake in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  14. Remove from the oven and allow the tartlets to cool for a few minutes before carefully removing them from the muffin tin.
  15. Serve warm and enjoy!
