So, grab some strawberries and get ready to enjoy the taste of summer!

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds fresh strawberries
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice

Directions

  1. Wash and hull the strawberries, then chop them into small pieces.
  2. In a blender or food processor, blend the strawberries until smooth.
  3. Place a fine-mesh strainer over a large bowl and pour the strawberry puree into the strainer, pressing it through with a spoon. Discard any solids left in the strainer.
  4. In a small saucepan, heat the sugar and lemon juice over medium heat until the sugar has completely dissolved, stirring occasionally.
  5. Remove the sugar syrup from the heat and let it cool for a few minutes.
  6. Pour the sugar syrup into the bowl with the strawberry puree and stir until well combined.
  7. Transfer the mixture to a shallow dish or baking pan, spreading it out evenly.
  8. Place the dish in the freezer and let it freeze for about 4 hours or until the edges are frozen.
  9. Using a fork, scrape the frozen edges inward to break up the ice crystals. Repeat this step every 30 minutes for the next 2-3 hours, until the entire mixture is flaky and resembles shaved ice.
  10. Once the granita has reached the desired consistency, scoop it into serving dishes and garnish with fresh strawberries, if desired.
  11. Serve immediately and enjoy!
