This easy recipe for air fryer onion bhaji will give you crispy, flavorful fritters that are perfect for snacking or as a side dish. Using the air fryer eliminates the need for deep frying, making this a healthier alternative that doesn't compromise on taste.

Ingredients

  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup chickpea flour
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • Water as needed
  • Cooking spray or oil for greasing

Directions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine chickpea flour, turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, chili powder, garam masala, and salt.
  2. Add sliced onions to the bowl and mix well to coat the onions with the spice mixture.
  3. Gradually add water as needed to form a thick batter that coats the onions.
  4. Preheat the air fryer to 370°F (190°C) and lightly grease the air fryer basket with cooking spray or oil.
  5. Using a spoon, drop spoonfuls of the onion mixture into the air fryer basket, forming small fritters.
  6. Air fry the onion bhaji at 370°F (190°C) for 10-12 minutes, or until crispy and golden brown, shaking the basket halfway through cooking.
  7. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce or chutney.
