Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1 package (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the milk, butter, sugar, salt, and warm water.
  2. Sprinkle the yeast over the top and let sit for 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in the flour, 1 cup at a time, until a soft dough forms.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place overnight.
  6. The next day, punch down the dough and turn it out onto a lightly floured surface.
  7. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and shape each piece into a round roll.
  8. Place the rolls on a greased baking sheet and let rise for 1 hour.
  9. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  10. Bake the rolls for 12 to 15 minutes, or until golden brown.
  11. Serve warm with butter.
