Ingredients

  • 1 pound of ground beef
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons of chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon of cumin
  • 1 teaspoon of oregano
  • 1 teaspoon of paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon of allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon of ground cloves
  • 1 (15 ounce) can of tomato sauce
  • 1 (15 ounce) can of kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1/2 cup of water
  • 2 tablespoons of sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

  1. In a large pot over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Add the chopped onion and garlic, and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  2. Add the chili powder, cumin, oregano, paprika, cinnamon, allspice, cayenne pepper, and ground cloves. Stir to combine and cook for 1 minute.
  3. Add the tomato sauce, kidney beans, water, and sugar. Bring to a simmer and reduce the heat to low. Simmer for 45 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
