Ingredients

  • 1 cup old-fashioned oatmeal
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup raisins
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
  • Milk or cream (optional)

Directions

  1. In a medium saucepan, bring the water and salt to a boil.
  2. Stir in the oatmeal and reduce the heat to low.
  3. Simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the brown sugar, butter, raisins and walnuts (optional).
  5. Spoon the oatmeal into individual serving bowls and top with milk or cream, if desired.
